Heroes: Fundin, Aerandil, Greyfox, Ragnarr.
YEAR 2946 - Spring
Hraf son of Hrabin, a Raven of the Mountain, has brought to Erebor some sinister tidings: two Dwarven messengers who left the Lonely Mountain on an errand are nowhere to be found. The Kingdom under the Mountain is astir, and Glóin the Dwarf himself has spread word that whoever provides news of the missing Dwarves will be richly rewarded.
In Esgaroth, the Heroes offer their services to Gloin, to track down the missing dwarves, none others that the brother and cousin of the noble Gloin.
They depart from Esgaroth by boat, first to the Stair of Girion, and from there south into the Long Marshes. There they find several traces of the passage of the two dwarves, eventually finding their latest camp-site.
There they also meet a band of Elves, who has apparently been following them since they entered the Mirkwood; the Elves are led by Galion, who informs the Heroes he has indeed seen Oin and Balin at the camp-site, but they have suddenly disappeared into the night not too long ago.
The Heroes proceed beside the river, reaching ancient ruins. There they're ambushed by a wounded Stone Troll hiding in a pool of water. Having defeated the fearsome creature, they find their way to a deep pool of dark water, near where the main buildings of the ancient town once rose.
The slow and soft sound of a far-away bell rings, enchanting Fundin for a moment, enough to have him walk straight into the pool. His companions save him from drowning, but it seems clear that, in order to solve the mystery, they'll have to dive into the dark waters.
