Session 11

Heroes: Aerandir, Ragnarr, Sparna, Greyfox.

Year 2949 - Spring

The Heroes meet with Ragadast in his home at Rhosgobel, where the wizard explains his concerns and asks the companions to investigate. The company travel from Rhosgobel to Mountain Hall, accompanied by a woodwoman guide, Banna.

Along the way, they spy traces of the enemy’s movements. The company arrive at Mountain Hall  and meet with Hartfast, the chieftain. He has his own troubles with Goblin attacks, and can spare little time for the company’s questions. He does point them towards the Gladden Fields, saying that some of his hunters have spoken of strange sights in that unpleasant land. The Heroes find a local guide, Magric the Trapper, a man who has been to the swamps often.

The company travel through the noisome swampy terrain of the Gladden Fields  After several days of arduous travel, they find eerie ruins atop a stony hill.  The company meet an escaped slave and battle the Orcs who hunt him. During the fight, Magric escapes, apparently scared by the Orcs. After the fight, the slave relates his tale, telling he recognised Magric as the one who sold him to the Orcs. He also reveals the location of a secret route into the fort.

The company enter the Dwimmerhorn by a secret passage and spy on the enemy. They learn that the enemy’s plans involve a powerful and ancient relic, the Chain of Thangorodrim.  Eventually they are discovered and must fight their way out of the fort. They are pursued across the Gladden Fields and the vales of Anduin to Mountain Hall. The company stays ahead of the Orcs for as long as they can. When they reach Mountain Hall, they find Magric has turned the Woodmen against the Heroes with his lies. But the company manages to convince Hartfast of Magric's treachery, and the trapper is imprisoned in the mines.

The pursuing Orcs retreat, but after a few nights a small group of Orc assassins tries, unsuccessfully, to murder the Heroes in their sleep.

Having healed their wounds, the Heroes report back to Radagast; when he sends his animal scouts to check on the fort, they discover that the enemy has withdrawn from its fastness. The company must have discovered the enemy before he was ready to reveal himself.

Year 2949 - Summer

Ragnarr visits ancient libraries and counsel sages, to discover more about the Chain of Thangorodrim, while Aerandir returns home to the Elven Realm to practise his elven magic. Sparna travels back to Beorn's House, this time to learn the language of birds. Back among the woodmen, Greyfox spends the summer hunting with her people.
